African Style Potato Chips by Green Sahara
The Mother Continent says "Howdy, Texas" with these locally made, African-inspired snacks.
If you’ve ever lived overseas—no matter where you’re from, and which sea you’re over—you know the cruelty of missing your homeland flavors in your new, foreign home.
Such was the case for Derin Raji, who originally settled in Oklahoma from Lago, Nigeria, and eventually got her bearings (sorry, Okies) and made her way to Texas.
Derin pined for the African spices she’d left behind, and set out to create the Green Sahara lineup of African Style Potato Chips.
We’re so glad she did.
Three available flavors are influnced by 3 different region of Africa:
North African Savory Spices, inspired by the spice markets in Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt;
West African Sweet Peanut, an homage to family recipes of Nigeria, Ghana, and Cameroon; and
East African Barbecue Chili, from the backyard gatherings of Ethiopia, Kenya, and Ghana.
Nice work, Derin.
