Ground Gold Coffee by Golden Ratio
You'll be both surprised and delighted by the lighter side of coffee. Your teeth will stay on the lighter side, too.
The first thing to know about Ground Gold Coffee by Austin-based Golden Ratio is that yes, it’s coffee! The same kind of beans that make your traditional dark brown morning goodness are likewise roasted to make gold coffee. The difference is, they’re roasted at lower temperatures, leaving them lighter.
That roasting difference, in turn, leads to the most important differences: a true coffee drink that’s less bitter and 5x less acidic than traditional coffee, yet still has the same amount of caffeine (100 mg per 8 ounces).
How’s it taste? Wonderful! It’s somewhat nutty with hints of coffee, but it’s smooth and might remind you more of a tea drink than coffee. Even better: It won’t stain your teeth.
The idea for Golden Ratio was born from Clark Nowlin, a musician and coffee lover who at some point touring the country realized he could no longer stomach the acidity of his morning (and afternoon, and evening) brew. He founded Golden Ratio to bring this rare speciality brew to the discerning masses. Thank you Clark!
A 12 oz. bag of ground golden coffee beans is $20, but note the subscription option if you’d like to save on your new addiction. And if you’re in Austin, find it brewed hot at Cosmic Coffee, and boozy in Codependent’s Golden Espresso Martini.
