The Wisephone: Quite Smart, If You Ask Us
Plano-based Techless seeks to improve your digital well-being with its "simple" smartphone.
Folks fatigued by too much digital connectivity (truly, who isn't?) will be delighted to learn about the Wisephone by Techless, a Plano-based venture that's as much a healthy lifestyle brand as it is an innovative tech company.
While it looks just like a smartphone—and in fact, it's built on Motorola Moto E 2020 hardware—the Wisephone is remarkably spartan in its features. You can make phone calls and text, navigate, take photos and calculate your tips (and soon: play music!).
But, that's pretty much where it ends. There are no apps or browsers, nor any way to add them.
And that's the idea, of course. Led by Founder Chris Kaspar, the folks at Techless see technology as a gift, but one that's so powerful it can too easily divorce us from what's meaningful, especially our relationships to people and the natural world around us.
Whether you're a parent defending against online threats to your child, or someone struggling with your own screen time addiction, or you simply want to simplify your digital life, the Wisephone is a welcome tool for disconnecting, so you can reconnect.
